Happy Friday! Many of you have noticed that I have not sent any Friday updates in 3 weeks and kindly reached out to check up on me ❤️❤️❤️
All is well, but since you are on this journey with me - you get to witness all the ups and downs of writing a book.. including (a) lack of direction on where I wanted to take the weekly updates & (b) lack of motivation due to (a). I know that consistency is key and now with new invigorated thoughts, I am back.
Before I dive into this week’s update…
Out of a number of responses to my post “We have always done it this way“, I decided to pick out a quote that made me chuckle:
“Change is inevitable-except from a vending machine.” | Toolbox Hr
Keep the responses coming people and share the love for the weekly posts by forwarding this over to a friend in need.
As promised, I would provide some anecdotes for each chapter with hypothetical situations so here comes one:
This is an excerpt from “Swiss-Cheese” chapter :
Imagine you are now in charge of a number of disparate innovation teams in a large company. So you (plural you from now on) get together as a leadership team. One key rule you establish is “Leave your titles, egos and personal career goals to the side and lets design the future of Digital Health as a high-powered squad of great consultants”. You go through many iterations of the problem statement, but the most important thing is a discussion on who is in and who is out. Who is ready to go on this journey and who is not. In that room, you (singular) could see who is really in for the adventure and who is not and so the fun begins. You have many agreements but also many disagreements and trials & errors but a few key themes emerge:
1. You need to truly unite as a team AND under one brand. (Clear messaging)
2. You need to do something different than the other 10,000’s of thousands of people in the organization. (USP)
3. You need to continue challenging the existing system in place (Driving change)
4. You need to re(build) the team (Talent)
5. You still need a “cash cow” as you explore some new frontiers. (Experimentation)
more to come next week on the hypothetical plan of action… 😂
Till Next Time,
If you are also swallowing the hard pill or know a colleague who is, do me a huge favor and forward this or hit the “Share” buttons conveniently placed all around this post.
