Happy Friday,
I knew you would click , I just knew it. I also hope you will now forward this newsletter to 2 people that this content will resonate with.. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Last week’s teaser “The Challenge” mainly just got a lot of commiseration and laughs but I also got a picture with the infamous “Fucking Hell” beer in my hand at an event prior to joining big pharma.. On a serious note: it really wasn’t hell and this picture does prove that I have lost my hair prior to joining.. On an even a more serious note: Other characters have been cropped out to preserve their anonymity
This post on LinkedIn pimping my book really drew people’s attention as my subscriber-ship (is that even a word? Should I know this as a writer?) increased by 27% in just a few days.. obviously “Surviving Pharma Corporate politics” resonated.
With the #Election2020 anxiety, I listened to James Altucher’s “13 Things Mentally Strong People do when their candidate loses” (blog | podcast) and realized this is the perfect time to put together just “5 Things mentally strong people do to survive Pharma Corporate Politics” (note: the original chapter name is now out the window).
Here it goes, and please note that each of these will have a fun story attached to it in the book.
1️⃣ “Work With People” - “People work with people” - those who know me, I say this ALL THE TIME! People connect and create with other people not brands, not logos, not silos, etc.. Seek out people who you can get shit done with..
2️⃣ “Focus on the Champions” - you can get lost in the sea of meetings, but you also know pretty quickly who will be your champions and who will use every possible weapon to cut you at the knees.. exert your energy in finding champions NOT fighting the naysayers.
3️⃣ “{I} Don’t wake up every morning to make everybody happy, {just you honey}” - yes I say that to my amazing better half - it gets me brownie points, but I also mean it. 😂As a leader you are not there to please everyone, you are there to drive change.
4️⃣ “Focus on creating leaders” - the main “job” of a leader is to create other leaders, so don’t look at “playing politics” as politics, but as a tool to shield the team and unblock your future leaders to get shit done.
5️⃣ “Love what you do” - we always hear “Do what you love”, but the key here is to actually love what you do and create an atmosphere for your team for some #TeamLove ❤️
What are the tools YOU use to survive?
Till Next Week,
